FAQs about Bedding

How do I choose the right flannel pillowcases?

Flannel pillowcases are the winter upgrade for your pillow. Pick these if your bedroom runs cold or you want brushed-cotton softness against your face at night. Match the size to your pillows and buy spares for laundry days.

If your bedroom runs warm year-round, percale or sateen pillowcases will serve you better.

What is flannel?

Flannel is cotton brushed on one or both sides to raise the fibre and create a soft, fuzzy surface. The brushing traps air, which is why flannel feels warmer than plain cotton against your skin.

Our flannel is brushed on both sides for maximum warmth and softness.

What sizes do Marshmellow flannel pillowcases come in?

Our flannel pillowcases come in three sizes: 50×75 cm (standard, fits Europe, Japan, Brazil, UK, and US/Australia/Canada), 65×65 cm (square, common in Europe and Japan), and 80×80 cm (large square). Measure your pillows before ordering. If your pillow falls between sizes, round up.

Are flannel pillowcases only for winter?

For most climates, yes. Flannel pillowcases work best from autumn through early spring. By April, most people swap back to percale or sateen for the warmer months.

If you live somewhere properly cold, flannel pillowcases can serve you year-round.

Where are Marshmellow flannel pillowcases made?

Every flannel pillowcase is woven, brushed, and sewn in Portugal, in the same Lintexport mill we've been running since 1967. The brushing is done in-house, which is why our flannel feels denser and warmer than mass-produced alternatives.

How do I care for flannel pillowcases?

Wash warm (30-40°C) with mild detergent. No bleach and no fabric softener, since softener mats the brushed fibres and reduces flannel's warmth. Tumble dry low to keep the loft up.

How are flannel pillowcases different from percale and sateen?

Flannel is brushed and warm, the one your face will love in winter. Percale is crisp and cool, the best choice for warm sleepers. Sateen is silky and slightly warm, the closest to a hotel-pillow feel.

For a cold bedroom, flannel. For a hot one, percale. For silkiness, sateen.

Luxury Flannel Pillowcases

A flannel pillowcase is the warmest thing your face will touch tonight.

Your face is on it for seven hours. Skin against cotton, eyes closed, breath slow. In winter, the difference between a cold pillow and a warm one is the difference between drifting off and lying awake.

Ours are woven and brushed in Portugal, since 1967. Cotton flannel brushed on both sides for soft warmth, in sizes that fit European (50×70 cm) and Iberian (50×60 cm) pillows. Sold individually so you can buy what you need and replace what's worn.

Other flannel pillowcases are brushed lightly, on one side, by factories that don't weave the cotton themselves. Ours are different. Luxury flannel pillowcases from a mill that knows what brushed cotton should feel like.

Made in Portugal, since 1967. Warm your pillow for winter.
