FAQs about Bedding

How to choose the right sateen sheets?

Sateen sheets are the choice for cool sleepers, hotel-bed lovers, and anyone who wants silky drape against their skin. Match the cut to your mattress (140, 160, 180, or 200 cm widths) and your duvet to the cover. Then pick a colour that suits the bedroom.

If you sleep hot, percale sheets will breathe better. Sateen is slightly warmer because the satin weave sits closer to the skin.

What is sateen?

Sateen is a satin-weave fabric made from cotton, typically four yarns over and one under, which creates the smooth surface and subtle sheen. Cotton sateen sheets give you the look and feel of satin with the durability and breathability of cotton.

It's not the same as silk satin. Sateen is cotton, finished to feel and look silky.

How are sateen sheets different from percale and flannel?

Sateen is silky and slightly warm. Percale is crisp and cool. Flannel is brushed and warmest of the three.

If you want the hotel-bed feeling, sateen. If you sleep hot, percale. If your bedroom is properly cold in winter, flannel sheets.

What makes the best sateen sheets?

Long-staple cotton, the right satin weave, and clean finishing. Cheap sateen uses short fibres that pill within a year. Best sateen sheets use long-staple cotton, woven tightly enough for the sheen but loosely enough to breathe.

Ours hits all three. Made in Portugal, since 1967.

Do sateen sheets need ironing?

No. Sateen comes out of the dryer almost smooth and drapes well on its own. Most sateen lovers skip the iron entirely.

If you want a crisper finish, iron damp sateen on the reverse at medium heat.

Where are Marshmellow luxury sateen sheets made?

Every sateen sheet is woven and finished in Portugal, in the same Lintexport mill we've been running since 1967. Satin weave is technically demanding to get right, and we've been getting it right for over five decades.

How do I care for sateen sheets?

Wash warm (30-40°C) with mild detergent. Skip bleach. Skip fabric softener, since it dulls the sheen.

Tumble dry low or line dry. Sateen cotton sheets get softer with washing, and the sheen mellows just slightly into something more comfortable over time.

Luxury Sateen Sheets

A sateen sheet is the silkiest layer in the bed.

Smooth. Lustrous. The kind of bedding that catches the morning light and makes the bed look more expensive than it is. Cotton, finished to feel and look like satin, made the proper way.

Ours is woven in Portugal, since 1967. Long-staple cotton sateen with the right weave for the right balance of sheen, drape, and durability. Sateen cotton sheets in fitted, flat, and pillowcase pieces. Build the set you want.

Sateen bed sheets get softer with each wash. The sheen mellows just slightly, the cotton settles into its proper hand. Two years in, your luxury sateen sheets will feel completely worn-in, in the best way.

Other sateen sheets cut corners on cotton length and lose their sheen quickly. Ours don't. Best sateen sheets, the kind that hold their hand for years.
