FAQs about Bedding

How to choose the right flannel duvet cover?

Flannel is the duvet cover for cold months and cool sleepers. Pick this if your bedroom runs cold or you want brushed-cotton softness against your skin. Match the size to your bed: flannel duvet cover queen and flannel duvet cover king options are both available.

If your bedroom runs warm year-round, flannel will be too much for spring and summer. Keep it as your winter duvet cover and rotate to percale or sateen for warmer months.

What is flannel, and how is it made?

Flannel is cotton (sometimes wool, but ours is cotton) brushed on one or both sides to raise the fibre and create a soft, fuzzy surface. The brushing traps air, which is why flannel feels warmer than plain woven cotton.

The weight is measured in grams per square metre (gsm). Heavier flannel feels warmer and lasts longer.

Is a flannel duvet cover too warm for year-round use?

For most climates, yes. Flannel works best from autumn through early spring. By April, most people switch to percale or sateen for the warmer months.

If you live somewhere properly cold, a flannel duvet cover can serve you year-round.

How is flannel different from percale and sateen?

Flannel is brushed and warm. Percale is plain-woven, crisp, and cool. Sateen is satin-woven, smooth, and slightly warmer than percale but cooler than flannel.

For a cold bedroom, flannel duvet cover. For a hot one, percale. For drape and silkiness, sateen.

Where are Marshmellow luxury flannel duvet covers made?

Every flannel duvet cover is woven, brushed, and sewn in Portugal, in the same Lintexport mill we've been running since 1967. Brushing is what makes flannel flannel, and we do it ourselves, in the right gsm for warmth and durability.

What sizes do Marshmellow flannel duvet covers come in?

Our flannel duvet covers come in sizes for 140, 160, 180, and 200 cm beds, including flannel duvet cover queen (152 cm) and flannel duvet cover king (193 cm) sizes for North American shoppers. Match the size to your bed, not your duvet.

How do I care for a flannel duvet cover?

Wash warm (30-40°C) with mild detergent. No bleach and no fabric softener, since softener mats the brushed fibres and reduces flannel's warmth. Tumble dry low to keep the loft up; long line drying alone leaves flannel a little stiff.

Luxury Flannel Duvet Covers

A flannel duvet cover is what you reach for when October arrives.

The duvet inside hasn't changed. The bedroom hasn't changed much. The flannel duvet cover does the work of a degree or two of central heating, just by being there. The bed feels three notches warmer the night you put it on.

Ours is made in Portugal, since 1967. Cotton flannel brushed on both sides for soft warmth, in weights heavy enough to last a decade. Flannel duvet cover queen and flannel duvet cover king sizes for North American beds, plus our standard 140 to 200 cm range for Europe.

Other flannel duvet covers are brushed lightly, on one side, by factories that don't weave the cotton themselves. Ours are different. Luxury flannel duvet covers from a mill that's been brushing flannel for over fifty years.

Made in Portugal, since 1967. Warm up properly.
