FAQs about Bedding

How to choose the right flat sheet?

Start with the fabric, since it's the layer that sits closest to your skin all night. Percale for warm sleepers, sateen for a silky drape, flannel for cold months. Then size: match the cut to your bed width, and round up if you're between sizes for a generous drape past the mattress edge.

A flat sheet is the bit your body touches all night. Worth picking carefully, and worth keeping a second set in the cupboard for laundry days.

What size flat sheet should I buy?

Our flat sheets come in two cuts. The smaller cut fits 140/160 cm beds (UK Double and King, US/AU/CA Queen). The larger cut fits 180/200 cm beds (UK Superking and Emperor, US/AU/CA King). A flat sheet should drape generously past the edge of the mattress on each side, so when in doubt, size up.

How do I pick between percale, sateen, and flannel flat sheets?

Percale is crisp and breathable, ideal for warm sleepers and Mediterranean summers. Sateen is silkier and a touch heavier, the closest thing to a hotel-bed feel. Flannel is brushed cotton, the one you'd want against your skin in February.

A flat sheet is the layer your body touches all night. The fabric matters more here than on the duvet cover.

Where are Marshmellow flat sheets made?

Every Marshmellow flat sheet is woven and finished in Portugal, in the same Lintexport mill we've been running since 1967. The continuity is the reason our cotton softens with each wash instead of fraying.

How do I care for my flat sheets?

Wash on a cool to warm cycle (30-40°C) with mild detergent. No bleach, no fabric softener, since it reduces breathability. Tumble dry on low or line dry, and iron only if you like the crisp hotel finish.

What makes Marshmellow's luxury flat sheets different?

It's the manufacturing depth. Most luxury flat sheets pass through several middlemen before they reach you. Ours come from the same Portuguese mill we've run since 1967, where we weave the fabric, sew the sheet, and ship it directly.

The colour holds. The weave gets softer instead of thinner. The hem stays straight after fifty washes.

Is a flat sheet meant to go on top of the duvet or underneath?

Underneath. The fitted sheet goes on the mattress, the flat sheet goes over you, and the duvet sits on top of that. In hot weather, kick the duvet off and sleep under the flat sheet alone.

Luxury Flat Sheets

A flat sheet is the layer between you and the duvet. The civilising bit.

The bit you throw off when you're warm and pull back when you're not. The bit that protects the duvet cover from your skin and saves you a wash a fortnight. Worth getting right.

Ours are woven in Portugal, by people who've been doing this since 1967. Percale for warm sleepers. Sateen for the hotel feel. Flannel for the kind of cold that gets under the duvet.

Flat sheets in two cuts, sized for 140/160 cm beds and 180/200 cm beds. Sold solo so you can replace the bit that wears, not the whole set.

Other flat sheets are filler. Ours are the layer you'll think about at 3am, in a good way. Luxury flat sheets that get softer with washing instead of thinner.

Made in Portugal, since 1967. Make the bed properly.
