700 GSM of organic cotton terry — the density good hotels specify and almost nobody buys for themselves. Heavy in the hand, deep underfoot, and the reason a shower at home can feel like a shower somewhere expensive.
What 700 grams actually buys you
GSM is grams per square metre — the honest measure of how much cotton is in a towel. Supermarket towels sit around 300–400. Ours sit at 700, which is nearly double the yarn in the same piece of cloth.
You feel it three ways: the towel is heavier to lift, the pile is deep enough that your hand sinks into it, and it holds far more water before it stops working. One bath sheet dries two people. It takes longer on the rail in return — that is the trade, and it is worth making in a bathroom with a window or a heated rail.
Long-staple organic cotton
Long fibres twist into stronger, smoother yarn that does not shed or pill. It is the difference between a towel that thins in a year and one that is still dense after a decade of washing.
Zero-twist pile
The loops are left barely twisted, so they stand open and drink water on contact. Tightly twisted yarn is cheaper to weave and noticeably worse at the one job a towel has.
Woven in Portugal
Spun, dyed, woven and hemmed in our own mill since 1967 — the same one that supplies hotels. Double-stitched hems and a woven border that keeps its shape.

Marshmellow is the direct-to-you brand of Lintexport, a Portuguese textile manufacturer founded in 1967. For decades we wove for other people’s labels, hotels included. The same looms and the same technicians now make towels that reach you without the three markups in between — which is the entire reason a 700 GSM bath towel costs €55 here and considerably more elsewhere.
Questions worth asking
Will a 700 GSM towel take forever to dry?
It takes longer than a midweight — there is more cotton holding more water, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. On a heated rail or in a bathroom with a window it is a non-issue. In a small interior bathroom with no ventilation, buy the midweight instead; we would rather you were happy than sold up.
Why does it feel stiff at first?
Because there is no softener on it. Silicone finishes make a towel feel wonderful in the shop and then wash out, leaving fibres that repel water. Ours are finished bare: wash once before first use to open the loops, and the towel softens with every wash from there.
What is zero-twist and why should I care?
It describes how tightly the pile yarn is spun. Barely twisted loops stand up and absorb on contact; tightly twisted ones lie flat and push water around. Zero-twist costs more to weave and is the single clearest tell of a serious towel.
Which size do I actually need?
Bath towel 70 × 140 cm is the everyday standard and our best seller by a distance. Bath sheet 100 × 150 cm is for wrapping rather than drying — take it if you are taller than about 1.75 m or simply prefer more cloth. Hand towels live by the basin; face towels are for washing, not drying.
Can I mix two colours?
Most people do. It is the most common thing we see in heavyweight orders — one colour each, or a darker colour for the family bathroom and a lighter one for guests. The sets above include two of the pairings that come up most, but every colour is sold individually if you want your own combination.
Will the colours last?
Yarn-dyed before weaving, so the colour is through the fibre rather than on the surface. Wash at 40°, no bleach, no softener. Wash new darks separately the first time, as any dense cotton releases a little excess dye.
Is this a good gift?
