FAQs about Bedding

What is the difference between a bath sheet and a bath towel?

Size. A bath sheet is typically 90x150 cm or larger; a standard bath towel runs around 70x140 cm. That extra dimension means a bath sheet wraps around the body fully without holding corners, which is the reason people prefer them after a shower. Both are made from the same cotton and dry just as well. If you want to wrap rather than just dry, a bath sheet is the one you reach for.

What size is a bath sheet?

Bath sheets typically measure 100x150 cm. The size is consistent enough that most towel rails and hooks hold them without difficulty, though a bath sheet drapes rather than folds into thirds the way a bath towel does. If you are buying for a heated rail, check the rail width: a bath sheet on a narrow rail will not dry as efficiently between uses as a bath towel on the same rail.

What is the best material for a bath sheet?

Cotton, in terry or waffle weave. Terry is the classic: looped pile on both sides, high absorbency, the familiar plush feel. Waffle is lighter, faster to dry, and drapes better on a rail or hook. It is the choice for bathrooms with less ventilation or climates where the towel needs to be ready again quickly. Both weaves work in a bath sheet. The question is whether you want the plush wrap or the fast-drying drape.

How do I care for cotton bath sheets?

Wash at 30-40 degrees C with a mild detergent. Skip the fabric softener: it coats the cotton fibres and reduces absorbency, which is the opposite of what you want in a bath sheet. Tumble dry on a low setting or line dry. Shake the sheet out before hanging to keep the pile open on terry and to keep the waffle grid from stiffening. Cotton bath sheets soften rather than thin with repeated washing.

How many bath sheets do I need?

Two per person using the bathroom is the working number. One in use, one drying or clean and ready. If the bathroom is shared or sees regular guests, four is more comfortable. Bath sheets take slightly longer to dry than bath towels because of their size, so the rotation matters. A second set means you are never using one that came off the rail still damp.

Are bath sheets worth it compared to bath towels?

For most people, yes. A bath sheet costs slightly more than a bath towel but lasts the same length of time. The difference is in the coverage: a bath towel dries you, a bath sheet wraps you. If your concern is storage, bath sheets fold slightly bulkier in a linen cupboard. If your concern is use, most people who switch do not go back.

Bath Sheets, Woven in Portugal

A bath sheet does one thing a bath towel does not: it wraps.

Not across one side. All the way around, with drape left over. That difference in coverage is why most people who switch rarely go back to reaching for a standard bath towel.

Ours are woven in Portugal, in the same mill we have been running since 1967. Terry for the absorbent, plush wrap. Waffle for the lighter, faster-drying sheet that looks as good on a rail as it feels after a shower.

Looking for a smaller size in the same cotton? Hand towels for the sink. Face towels for the bathroom shelf. Guest towels for when it matters.

Other bath sheets are thick enough to photograph well and thin enough to pill after a season. Ours are woven to hold. Made in Portugal, since 1967.
